Having wooden furniture in your home can add more beauty to your gorgeous home. Unfortunately, keeping them clean can be a difficult job, especially if you have young kids at home. Dirt and grime can be removed with the best furniture polish applied properly.  According to the experts at www.elle.com, frequent cleaning following the right instructions can help extend the life of your furniture. Let’s take a look at how to keep your antique wooden furniture gleaming.

If you plan on removing the dirt buildup on your wooden furniture, you will need boiled linseed oil, white vinegar, turpentine, an old toothbrush as well as some old cloth. It would be advisable to wear gloves to protect our skin from the harsh chemicals. Move your wooden furniture into a well ventilated area. Since the chemicals can produce a strong smell that might linger in your home if you are not careful.

You can layout a drop cloth on the ground to capture any liquid that misses a spot. Once you have the furniture on the drop cloth, wipe it down well with paper towels to get rid of dust and dirt as much as possible. Once you are done with that, you can use a vacuum with a tiny brush attachment to further remove dirt and grime.  After this step, mix equal amounts of white vinegar, turpentine and the linseed oil to prepare the cleaning solution.  Dip the cloth in this solution and gently rub the wood. You can start working on an indiscrete corner of the furniture to ensure that no stains appear on the furniture. Once you are wiping, make sure that you do not let the liquid soak into the wood, as it could damage the wood.  Continue wiping with the cloths dipped in this liquid until all the dirt disappears.  Take care not to scrub too roughly, as it may cause scratches to appear on the wood.

After you are done, the next step involves dipping the old toothbrush in the solution and scrubbing the hard to reach corners of the furniture.  Keep wiping away with a clean cloth to make sure that the liquid does not seep into the wood.  When all the dirt has been removed, you can do a final wipe down to get that smooth polished look.  Let the wooden furniture to breathe and dry overnight. After it has completely dried down, you can use a buff cloth to give a new shine. If you have any remaining liquid mix leftover, dispose of it off carefully, as it is highly combustible. The same goes for the pieces of cloth used to clean the furniture. They are highly combustible, making it a fire hazard in your home.

Once you get the idea of how to keep your wooden furniture clean, you can keep repeating the procedure once every year to have them gleaming every second. This helps extend the life of your furniture as well, saving you money by not needing to invest in new furniture every few years.
